In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Forms and conventions are the things that make a media product recognisable. Horror forms and conventions, as previously researched, include macro elements such as enigmatic narratives and hegemonic representation of gender as well as micro elements such as low key lighting, eerie non-diegetic sounds and jump cuts. Throughout each of the products I have created, manydifferent conventions have been both used and developed in order for themfunction within each product. Each element that I have incorporated in my threeproducts has, of course, been used before in a media platform of some kind. However, I have tried to develop these conventional components so that they integrate together to form conventional, yet identifiable, products. These are shots that are used to focus onone area of a person or location often a persons face or a window. These often focus on the performer whilst theyare singing or showing emotion. In narrative they areoften used to show emotion and expression. I used anumber of these shots because they allow the audienceto relate to the artist and also make the artist the centreof attention which is what I wanted. Tracking shots: These shots are mainly used innarrative elements. to follow a characters movementsacross a location. Again because of no narrative in thevideo these shots were not needed. Our research we conducted before we started production helped us to further understand our chosen genre. During our research we found out the different conventions and elements that go into making a film typical of our genre. This helped us as we were able to use the conventions and also knew how to contrast them and try and expand the genre. For example we researched the editing techniques used in Requiem For A Dream as this film is similar genre to ours. We therefore looked at using similar techinques to recreate the style of the film. We also looked into directors that have created films similar to the style that we want to create. We were then able to look at what techniques the director used to create the style of the film.
